PeaceWalk 2024 will cross from Philadelphia into Delaware County this coming June 15.  The peace walkers will walk to the Springfield Friends Meetinghouse, 1001 Old Sproul Rd, Springfield, PA 19064,  where, beginnning at 6p.m., there will be a celebration of the life and legacy of Daniel Ellsberg featuring a showing of THE MOST DANGEROUS MAN IN AMERICA: Daniel Ellsberg and The Pentagon Papers. Showing of  the Academy Award nominated, Best Documentary Feature, 2010, 94 mins., Trailer: https://www.mostdangerousman.org/

Daniel Ellsberg, economist, Vietnam war combat veteran,  political activist, civil disobedient, and former United States military analyst turned whistle-blower,  was in 1971 charged under the Espionage Act of 1917 and other charges including theft and conspiracy, carrying a total maximum sentence of 115 years for Ellsberg for leaking the Vietnam War Study “Pentagon Papers”. The case, however, was dismissed in 1973 because of government misconduct.

The PeaceWalk 2024 is dedicated to Ellsberg, who passed a year ago, on June 16, 2023, at the age of 92,  leaving a lifetime of nonviolent activism for peace and nuclear weapons abolition.

Daniel Ellsberg was the author of: “Papers on the War ” (1972); “Risk, Ambiguity, and Decision (2001), “Secrets: A Memoir of Vietnam and the Pentagon Papers” (2002) and, in 2017, “The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner.” which he dedicated  “To those who struggle for a human future”.

You’re invited to join us for a peace vigil and send-off outside the Springfield Friends Meetinghouse at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 16, before the walk commences  with its next leg.

You are invited to join the walk for as far as you can.
