Pride
British, Drama/Comedy, 2014, Rated R for language and brief sexual content, 120 minutes
It’s the summer of 1984. In Britain, Conservative Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, is in power, and the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike. A London-based group of gay and lesbian activists raise money to support the strikers’ families but are rebuffed by the Union, at first. The activist group subsequently finds a tiny mining village in Wales to make their donation, in person. What a surprise the Welsh miners are in for. The strike drags on, and the two groups, whose face to face contact started out with hostility and ridicule from the union, discover just how much they really have in common, humanly.
PRIDE is an uplifting drama that is directly shot through with funny and poignant lessons about human solidarity and standing together for justice. See trailer here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsFY0wHpR5o
