Fri., April 3, at 7p.m. – IDA   2015 Oscar Winner “Best Foreign Winner”
(Polish, 2014. Directed Pawel Pawlikowski; written by Pawlikowski and Rebecca Lenkiewicz.  PG-13 for thematic elements, some sexuality.  Black & White.  1hour, 20mins.  English subtitles)
Set in 1962 Poland, IDA depicts a young woman on the verge of taking her final vows to become a Catholic nun.  Orphaned as an infant during World War II and the German occupation of Poland,  she finds out that she is Jewish  and her Jewish parents were murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust.  Her discovery triggers a journey into the repressed secrets of the past during the equally repressive postwar Communism.  Ida’s story carries the weight of history,  bringing together momentous historic events and a young woman’s coming-of-age discoveries
