 ANOTHER INCONVENIENT TRUTH:

NUCLEAR ANNIHILATION IS
STILL JUST MINUTES AWAY
In 1960 there were enough thermonuclear bombs on hair-trigger launch alert to destroy most life on Earth. Many imagine that the end of the Cold War and subsequent strategic arms limitation treaties brought an end to this threat. They did not. The nuclear weapons deployed today could easily terminate human civilization and possibly kill everything on the planet.
Fortunately, unlike climate change, nuclear annihilation is easy to prevent.  Simply get rid of nuclear weapons. That is the idea behind the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, adopted in July 2017 by more than 100 nations — not, of course, any of the nuclear armed countries.
As citizens of the most heavily nuclear armed nation, we have a special responsibility to inform ourselves about the dangers posed by these weapons, and to work for their abolition.

That is why you are invited to attend a screening of Countdown to Zero on Saturday morning, January 26, 10:30a.m., at Germantown Monthly Meeting, 47 W Coulter St, Philadelphia, PA 19144 (Coulter, between Greene Street & Germantown Avenue).  Doors open at 10A.M. with light breakfast food & beverage.
This highly praised 2010 film, by the producers of An Inconvenient Truth and directed by Lucy Walker, lays out the nuclear facts of life. It features interviews with leaders who can see the way toward a world free of nuclear weapons. It has been called “mandatory viewing” and “the best horror film of all time.” It will certainly become part of your thinking.
